halaqa summary I

have you ever sat down and really thought about what sorts of questions you would ask someone you've spend most of your life with before his last breathe?

i have decided to include summary points of the weekly halaqa that i attended given by ustaadh hassan lacheb.

the halaqa was a simple one, but it was very much needed. we tend to ask questions that are theological and deep about existence and the future. but yet we can't even understand the core from the bottom of our hearts. the related hadith is exactly that - refocusing our mind, heart, and soul back to the core and basic of it all.

in the name of Allah, most gracious, most merciful.

- mu'adh bin jabal (ra) is a long time companion of the Prophet (saw). he is among the youngest to convert into islam. upon spending some time alone with the Prophet, he realized that it was his chance to ask for a personal advise before the Prophet passes away. mu'adh had asked a simple question, what will guide him into Paradise and keep him away from Hell Fire. for someone that was a long time companion of the Prophet, one would think that he has already understood the basic.

- this takes us to the importance of security, reassurance, and salvation.

- those who asks Allah to guide them, He will make the path to Jannah easy. but this requires consistency, persistence, and done according to the Sunnah. too many time people only seek His help only when we need Him. but Allah listens to those that seek in Him with patience.

- we always need His help, even to accomplish the basics of Islam such as the daily prayers and fastings. this shows that we need His help even to remember Him.

- "alchemy of happiness is la ilaha illa allah" (prayers, fastings, charity, etc. are all acts to get us to say "la ilaha illa allah" from the bottom of our hearts)

the depth of the hadith that was covered is very detailed, but these are some of the points that really stuck to me and would like to share.

the hadith can be found here : http://fortyhadith.iiu.edu.my/hadith29.htm

may He forgive me for anything that i may not have re-emphasized correctly. may He forgive ustaadh hassan and bless him with the ability to continue to give the halaqa.

if you read my blog, do let me know what you think. any comments, suggestions, and questions are always welcome :)

fi'amanillah.

  1. mabrouk for the post.

after i read it, i mused for quite sometimes, n an ayah went across my mind, (35:28)

Who is that muadz? a scientist?lawyer?engineer?

The more a person knows ALLAH, the more he will fear Him, and the fear of ALLAH will make him refrain from sin and prepare to meet the One Whom he fears. This is indicative of the virtue of knowledge, for it calls one to fear ALLAH. The people who fear ALLAH are the ones who will be honoured by Him.

this also shows us that the true knowledge is the knowledge of what makes us not to be apart from ALLAH, knowledge that will bring us closer to Him.

  2. jazaka'Allah khair MHMR for your insight.

unfortunately, all that was mentioned about mua'dh (ra) during the halaqa is as mentioned above. but insha'Allah if i come across anything more about him, i will share it here.

the verse that was mentioned above by MHMR is below:

[35:27] Do you not realize that GOD sends down from the sky water, whereby we produce fruits of various colors? Even the mountains have different colors; the peaks are white, or red, or some other color. And the ravens are black.

[35:28] Also, the people, the animals, and the livestock come in various colors. This is why the people who truly reverence GOD are those who are knowledgeable. GOD is Almighty, Forgiving.

[35:29] Surely, those who recite the book of GOD, observe the Contact Prayers (Salat), and from our provisions to them they spend - secretly and publicly - are engaged in an investment that never loses.

[35:30] He will recompense them generously, and will multiply His blessings upon them. He is Forgiving, Appreciative.

though only verse 28 was mentioned, i think that it is important that it is understood as a whole. thus, i have chose to include the other 4 verses with it. collectively these verses talks about Allah's colorful creations.
